"Religious pluralism teaches that people may be saved through a number of different religious traditions and saviors. Pluralists have given up Christianity as anything unique, and along with that, the authority of Scripture, the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, etc. As such, pluralism, as we have discovered, represents a different worldview that is antithetical to the gospel." Dr. Steven Wellum, SBTS Faculty
Surely there is nothing new under the sun. People have always had difficulty accepting any exclusive claim. In a fallen world where choice and options rule, the idea that there is only one way to do anything is met with hostility. Despite the temptation to make the words of Jesus more palatable in the name of "relevance," the challenge of the Christian must be to remain vigilant and faithful to the words of Christ. Only one course of action is faithful to the gospel.
Today‘s "tolerance" labels as intolerant anyone who does not accept all belief systems as equally valid. Can a Christian, in good conscience, proclaim Jesus as the only way to God? How is a Christian to communicate truth to people who hold a worldview that disregards the existence of truth? Jesus himself clearly declared that he is the only way to God. An audacious claim indeed! But audacity alone can never negate truth.
Only One Savior? This question comes from a heart that is searching for hope as well as a heart that rejects it. It is a question that deserves a truthful, careful, and compassionate response. Give Me An Answer 2009 will better equip you in defending our hope in the exclusivity, the necessity, and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ in our postmodern culture.
